Unidirectional systems allow information to travel to the POS from the web site only. So, when a client buys an item on your web site it communicates back to the POS for inventory control and accounting purposes.

With a bi-directional system, the web site and POS communicate back and forth. Products, customers and pricing can be managed from a single system and store inventory will report to both locations. For instance when you sell something online or in your store the inventory of both will be updated real-time, so you don’t oversell. Also, customers can be allowed to view invoice history online.
